ISO 9001:2015 Plan Do Check Act

Further adding to the above mind-map

Plan > Plan what is required to be done

Do > Put your Plans into action

Check > Are things going to Plan

Act > Plan to improve

My view is that wherever you are in the PDCA cycle you are likely to be planning, making plans, implementing plans, checking plans, or reviewing plans... so plan to plan...

The International Standard employs the process approach, which incorporates the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle and risk-based thinking.

Example of the continuous PDCA cycle, this would align more to the process flow of managerial decision making.

ISO 14001:2015 speak.

0.4 Plan-Do-Check-Act model "...The basis for the approach underlying an environmental management system is founded on the concept of Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA). The PDCA model provides an iterative process used by organizations to achieve continual improvement. It can be applied to an environmental management system and to each of its individual elements. It can be briefly described as follows..."

The process approach enables an organisation to plan its processes and their interactions.

The PDCA cycle enables an organisation to ensure that its processes are adequately resourced and managed, and that opportunities for improvement are determined and acted on.

Risk-based thinking enables an organisation to determine the factors that could cause its processes and its environmental management system to deviate from the planned results, to put in place preventive controls to minimize negative effects and to make maximum use of opportunities as they arise.

Note: The ISO 14001:2015 uses the methodology of the PDCA process throughout, however the PDCA cycle itself is not a requirement..."
