ISO 45001:2018 PDCA model
PDCA, or Plan-Do-Check-Act, embodies a continuous cycle aimed at driving ongoing improvements.
Plan-Do-Check-Act > then Plan-Do-Check-Act > then Plan-Do-Check-Act... guess to you get the picture...
Further adding to the mind-map below
Plan > Plan what is required to be done
Do > Put your Plans into action
Check > Are things going to Plan
Act > Plan to improve
My view is that wherever you are in the PDCA cycle you are likely to be planning, making plans, implementing plans, checking plans, or reviewing plans... so plan to plan...
ISO 45001:2018 underscores this approach, emphasizing the significance of Plan-Do-Check-Act in managing occupational health and safety (OH&S) effectively.
By adopting a process approach, organizations can meticulously plan their processes and their interconnections. Meanwhile, the PDCA cycle serves as a framework to ensure processes are well-resourced, managed, and continuously improved upon.
Additionally, the concept of risk-based thinking within ISO 45001:2018 empowers organizations to anticipate potential deviations from planned outcomes, implementing preventive measures to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.
It's worth noting that while ISO 45001:2018 utilizes the PDCA methodology throughout, adherence to the PDCA cycle itself is not mandated. However, its principles are woven into the fabric of effective OH&S management.
In essence, PDCA isn't just a cycle - it's a mindset that drives organizations toward excellence in occupational health and safety.
